Annual Updation of IEC Number
By J the App
Executive Summary
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (“DGFT”) has reiterated the requirement for all Importer Exporter Code (“IEC”) holders to complete their annual updation or confirmation of IEC particulars during the period from April 1 to June 30 each year.
The advisory serves as an important compliance reminder that although an IEC remains valid for the lifetime of the business entity, annual confirmation of details is mandatory under the Foreign Trade Policy framework.
Failure to complete the prescribed annual updation may result in automatic deactivation of the IEC, thereby preventing the holder from undertaking import or export transactions until the code is reactivated.
The reminder highlights the Government’s continuing focus on maintaining accurate trade databases, strengthening regulatory oversight, and ensuring integrity of importer-exporter information maintained by DGFT.
