DGFT Tightens AA Framework for Gold Imports

By J the App

Executive Summary

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (“DGFT”) has introduced five significant compliance-oriented notes under Standard Input Output Norms (“SIONs”) M-1 to M-8 applicable to the Gems and Jewellery Product Group.

The amendments impose stricter controls and monitoring mechanisms for issuance and utilisation of Advance Authorisations involving import of gold.

The newly inserted conditions introduce quantitative caps, mandatory physical verification for first-time applicants, export obligation-linked eligibility for subsequent authorisations, enhanced reporting obligations, and centralised monitoring requirements.

The measures indicate a clear policy shift toward tighter oversight and compliance tracking in gold imports under the Advance Authorisation Scheme.
