India and New Zealand have signed a comprehensive, “new-generation” Free Trade Agreement (FTA), marking a defining milestone in India’s trade engagement with developed economies. The Agreement delivers 100% duty-free access for Indian exports to New Zealand, coupled with market access across 118 services sectors, USD 20 billion investment commitment, and enhanced mobility pathways for professionals and students.
The FTA adopts a calibrated approach by opening 70% of India’s tariff lines (covering ~95% of bilateral trade) while safeguarding sensitive sectors such as dairy and key agricultural products. It is positioned as a strategic, future-oriented pact aligned with India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision, integrating trade, investment, talent mobility, and regulatory cooperation.
