ITAT Quashes assessment on invalid PAN

The Agra Bench of the ITAT quashed a reassessment holding that the proceedings were initiated and completed on a PAN that had ceased to exist years earlier. 

The Tribunal held that an assessment framed against a non-existent PAN is fundamentally unsustainable in law and liable to be annulled.
